All people travelling abroad should get travel insurance to cover health problems, lost or stolen baggage, cancellations, etc.
Most students will be required to get (in addition) Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) which is a visa requirement for the student visa.

OSHC provides high quality and secure medical insurance for the duration of your stay in Australia and is provided only be specially chosen organisations. In most cases, OSHC will be arranged by your school and paid through your school when you pay your tuition fees.
