Computers and Phones

Australia is highly advanced in use of personal computers and mobile phones. Whilst, due to the large size of the Australian continent, broadband is still a little slow in some areas, internet connections are available in most schools and homes.

Australians do not generally spend large amounts of time using the internet compared to some cultures and we recommend that students avoid using the internet too much as this can prevent you from experiencing Australian life and practicing English language.

Most computers brought from overseas will work in Australia and many students bring their own laptops. Also most phones roam in Australia though the call rates will be much higher than usual. Students staying for more than 4 weeks usually get their own local mobile prepaid phone for convenience and safety.

If you are considering bringing a computer with you, please check with your counsellor if you are not sure it will work. It is worth noting that foreign languages are not usually available on Australian computers.
