Australia has a modern, safe
banking system which is international and easy to use.
The Australian dollar is a worldwide currency
and is available in most countries. Most Australian banks can cash
travelers cheques or exchange currencies of most countries if you
bring cash.
Shopping is usually done by Electronic Fund
Transfer (EFTPOS) and nearly all shops and restaurants have EFTPOS
or credit card facilities. Cash is not so popular and it is not
suitable to carry or use large amounts of cash for transactions.
Here are the most common banks that international
students use after arriving in Australia:
Commonwealth Bank of Australia
National Bank of Australia
Westpac
ANZ Bank
Your AIS Education Centre counsellor can
assist you with any detailed enquiries about establishing a bank
account or transferring funds from overseas.
