The company was formed by a Brisbane based medical doctor (Doctor Geoffrey Hoole) and his family and remains a family owned business to this day. The company has grown to a significant world-wide business and is engaged by over 100 Australian institutions to carry out international student recruitment and marketing activities.

The major focus of the business activity of Australian Intercultural Services is consulting to some 200 foreign institutions, education agents, migration agents and travel agents with a worldwide base of over 1,000,000 students.

AIS was specially developed to improve the availability and accessibility of Australian education services to overseas institutions and students and to provide a comprehensive range of peripheral services. The services currently being provided by AIS include:
  Brokering relationships between overseas and Australian institutions
  Developing co-curricular intern-institutional academic programmes
  Creating dual degree (joint badged) programmes
  Assisting overseas institutions to develop practical, well priced study tours

  Assisting overseas students with the logistics of preparing to travel to Australia
  Providing visa support directly and through affiliated registered migration agents
  Arranging international transport through affiliated travel companies
  Arranging airport pickups and accommodation
  Providing a comprehensive counselling and support service for international students during their stay in Australia
  Providing educational workshops to train students in TOEIC test preparation, grammar and pronunciation
